Vale Tudo Rules
Minimum age
All fighters must be minimum 18 years of age.

Matchmaking
All fights should be well-matched.

Weight classes
1. Light Weight -65 kg
2. Welter Weight -70 kg
3. Middle Weight -76 kg
4. Light heavy Weight -83 kg
5. Cruiser Weight -91 kg
6. Heavy Weight +91 kg

Referee
Each fight should be overseen by an approved referee.

Secretary
The outcome of each fight should be noted by a secretary.

Coaches
1. Each competitor is entitled to two coaches.
2. During the fight, none of the coaches shall remain in the competition area.
3. The coaches, shall be in possession of a towel for the competitor and may, if they consider the competitor to be in difficulty, give in for the competitor by throwing the towel into the ring/cage.
4. Advice, assistance or encouragement should be given to the competitor in a calm manner during the progress of the fight.
5. The competitor may be cautioned, warned or disqualified by the referee for offences committed by the coaches.

Medic
There must be at least one medical at the event.

Competition area
Ring or Cage

Bout duration
1. All non-tournament bouts shall be three rounds.
2. Tournament bouts shall be two rounds with an optional extension round in the final.
3. Rounds will be five minutes in duration.
4. A 90 seconds rest period will occur between each round.

Equipment
1. Vale Tudo gloves (will be provided by the arranger).
2. Fighting shorts, boxing trunks or similar.
3. Groin cup.
4. Mouth piece.
5. Knee protection (optional).

Fouls
1. Rubbing the body with liniment or similar.
2. Excessive use of Vaseline (more then needed in the face).
3. Butting with the head, eye gouging of any kind, biting, hair pulling, fish hooking, groin attacks of any kind, putting a finger into any orifice or into any cut or laceration on an opponent, clawing/pinching/twisting the flesh, spitting at an opponent. Small joint manipulation (fingers and toes).
4. Striking to the spine or the back of the head.
5. Throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea.
7. Spiking an opponent to the canvas on his head or neck.
8. Throwing an opponent out of the ring or fenced area.
9. Kicking the head of a grounded opponent.
10. Kneeing the head of a grounded opponent.
11. Stomping a grounded opponent.
12. Kicking to the kidney with the heel.
14. Holding the ropes or the fence.
15. Holding the shorts or gloves of an opponent.
16. Attacking an opponent on or during the break.
17. Attacking an opponent who is under the care of the referee.
18. Attacking an opponent after the bell has sounded the end of the period of unarmed combat.
19. Engaging in an unsportsmanlike conduct that causes an injury to an opponent.
20. Using abusive language in the ring or fenced area.
21. Flagrantly disregarding the instructions of the referee.
22. Timidity, including, without limitation, avoiding contact with an opponent, intentionally or consistently dropping the mouthpiece or faking an injury.
23. Interference by the corner.

Restart of fight in same position
In case of a warning, medical check or similar, the fight shall be restarted in the same position as before the break.

Restart of the fight in case of a stalemate
The referee may restart the fight in neutral position (standing up) if the fighters reach a stalemate and do not work to improve position or finish.

Ways to Win
1. Submission (by physical or verbal tap out).
2. Opponent´s corner-crew throws in the towel.
3. Technical knockout (the referee stopping the contest).
4. Decision (via the scorecards of three point judges: 10-9 or in case of a very even fight 10-10).
5. Opponent is disqualified.

A fight can be declared as a "no contest". This can be done during or after the fight.

Protest
If a competitor, a coach or a school manager want to protest against a decision or outcome of a fight, a written protest should be delivered to the event arranger within 48 hours of the event.

Post-fight medical check
A fighter should be sent to hospital for post-fight medical check if there is any doubt concerning the fighter’s condition.

Injury report
Each injury including knockouts should be noted by the secretary.

In case of a knockout
A competitor who has been knocked out as a result of a head blow in a fight or wherein the referee has stopped the fight due to the competitor having received hard blows to the head or having been strangulated unconscious making the competitor defenceless or incapable of continuing, shall be examined by a medical immediately.

Probation Periods
1. One Knockout. A competitor who has been knocked out as a result of a head blow during a fight or wherein the referee has stopped the fight due to the competitor having received hard blows to the head or having been strangulated unconscious making the competitor defenceless or incapable of continuing, shall not be permitted to take part in competitive fighting or sparring for a period of at least 4 weeks after he/she has been knocked out.
2. Two Knockouts. A competitor who has been knocked out as a result of head blows or wherein the referee has stopped the fight due to a competitor having received hard blows to the head or having been strangulated unconscious making the competitor defenceless or incapable of continuing twice in a period of three months, shall not be permitted to take part in competitive fighting or sparring during a period of three months from the second knockout.
3. Three Knockouts. A competitor who has been knocked out as a result of head blows or wherein the referee has stopped the fight due to the competitor having received hard blows to the head or having been strangulated unconscious making the competitor defenceless or incapable of continuing three times in a period of 12 months, shall not be allowed to take part in competitive fighting or sparring for a period of one year from the third knockout.

Illegal use of narcotics & doping
The competitor agrees to be tested, immediately preceding and following the fight, to confirm negative results of use of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, barbiturates and other illegal substances. Should any test result be positive, the competitor will be automatically disqulified.

1. Punches to head and body in stand-up fighting as well as ground fighting (including hammer fists) are approved.
2. Kicks to head, body and legs in stand-up fighting are approved.
3. Round kicks to the legs are approved towards a grounded opponent when standing and towards a standing opponent when grounded.
4. Knees to body and legs in stand-up fighting are approved.
5. Throws and takedowns are approved
6. Submission techniques are approved.

Specific fouls
1. Striking to the spine or the back of the head.

3. Striking using the elbow or forearm.
4. Kneeing the head of a standing opponent.
5. Kneeing a grounded opponent.
6. Kicking to head or body of a grounded opponent.

9. Kicking straight kicks at a standing opponent when grounded.

General fouls
